We predicted that more anthropogenically burdened coyotes (i.e., living in areas with more pollution, higher development intensity, higher human pop. densities, etc.) would exhibit different movement patterns than their less burdened counterparts... (2/n)

And indeed, more burdened coyotes had larger home ranges, longer step lengths, and greater mean daily displacement, which is a measure of exploration. Basically, more burdened coyotes need to go further afield to get what they need, with likely energetic consequences... (3/n)

More burdened coyotes also selected differently for landscape features than did less burdened coyotes, for example with a particular preference for city parks- where tasty human-produced resources (like trash) and synanthropic rodents (like rats) abound... (4/n)

Importantly, 1) in some contexts coyotes appear to be using linear infrastructure, such as railways, to more easily traverse the landscape, and 2) incorporating societal features (like wealth, pollution, etc.) into movement models improved model performance! (5/n)
