Yes, and if someone sends you something to read, please A) read it, and B) let them know you read it and what you thought. When our work disappears into the void, our worst imaginings (it's boring, it's bad) lead us to drop the project.

100% true for most creative things. However Netflix have made the issue of people waiting for a thing to be finished before engaging so much worse by cancelling shows that are incomplete/end on cliffhangers. Why engage with a new show if you don't know if the next season will get green lit? Hate it.

If I have nothing to say I've started just commenting "extra kudos" or I'll pick a line I really liked and quote that in the comments with an emoji. This works great for me for multi chapter fics when I don't have something to say for every chapter. I hope the author's like it too

I've been trying to explain this to so many people lately. even for those of us that aren't really looking for attention, constantly hearing NOTHING is so draining. Especially when engagement is what drives success on pretty much every platform out there.

Sadly, the same happens with many other callings. My own experience with a 40-year teaching career was about 5 "thank you for how much you helped and influenced me" followed by at least twice that in the week after I announced my retirement.

Very often when I see art I like, I let them know I like it, specify what I like about it, and (I really want to normalize this) I thank them for sharing.
