Why won't America's stock price go up?

When you fire a bunch of people and say the word "efficiency" a lot, your stock price goes up. Everyone knows that. And when you say "AI," it goes up even more.

Back in the day “run government like a business” also meant treating people like customers…shorter lines, quick responses, services delivered. I wasn’t crazy about the framing but now running like a business means fucking with your customers until they get the idea that you want them to go away

It meant the same thing “back in the day”, tbh. It was just administered in a way where the “fucking with your customers” was well contained to marginalized and disadvantaged communities. Now the “business” is expanding.
