I served 22 years in the Army, my concerns are far less about active duty forces doing bad things and much more concerned about the National Guard. The guard has for a very long time been, how should I put it... kinda shit. Varies a lot by state but Hegseth was a successful national guard officer.

I think the US military does an excellent job of indoctrinating its members about lawful orders, civilian control, and that the military is apolitical but I'm still concerned about one thing:

In general, I think you're right.
But the Army alone has nearly 450,000 active duty, plus another nearly 500k in reserve. Even if some say the order is illegal and refuse to follow it, there are probably some at some level who'd do it willingly. Maybe eagerly.

Sure enough such personel probably exist to stock a unit or two of willing to murder neighbors for dictatorship, but they are probably spread out into disparate units. DJT would have to identify them and group them into cohesive units and i doubt the Pentagon brass will do that for him.
