one thing im totally baffled by is how many people around me are totally blasé / not attuned / not frightened by the political situation? maybe if you're not directly affected it's easier to ignore & just think things are normal? the disconnect is so insane

I think a lot of people who live a privileged life (white, middle-upper class, etc) are blinded or just wearing blinders to what is going on. I also think they did pay attention before this. It will have to hurt hard for them to notice.

It will take decades to undo this damage and this assumes free/fair elections in 4 years and thereafter that reject this poison. I’m not hopeful. This is all laying the groundwork to ensure we don’t have that choice.

Everything that’s happening now is screaming “indefinite consolidation of power”, and even if Trump wasn’t bragging before the election that people wouldn’t have to vote again, one would expect for Americans, enforcers of democracy around the globe, to be a little more concerned right now.

Yeah, an amazing lot of people do not seem aware that the sides are "a tiny number of extremely rich people who have no moral or ethical hesitation getting much richer at the expense of the rest of us" and "the rest of us". And they also seemed to have missed which side they are, by default, on.

People have been able to remain disconnected because the momentum of the economy has shielded them from direct effects. That situation won't last. Their willful ignorance will be shattered as the wheels fall off.
