BL3 provided that same experience with its core gameplay, but then undermined the virtues of that formula with limited time holiday events that exist to create FOMO and make the gameplay feel like an obligation.

To clarify a bit: what all the BL games do well is provide RPG level and loot progression experience in an action-packed form that can be enjoyed in small doses. If I ever feel under-leveled or under-equipped, I don't grind for hours; I go do side quests. I experience more content.
