That whole thing makes absolutely no sense to the rest of the world, and honestly I can only see it as a means to corrupting the election and over-ruling the people.
I’ve said this for decades. Every other election from Dog catcher to Senator is decided on who got the most votes. Every election except the most important office- PRESIDENT.
the electoral college was also established by republicans for racist reasons. in fact most things which are ruining our country are republicans doing. money counts as free speech? republicans... child marriages? republicans fight to keep it legal. gerrymandering, low minimum wages, pollution...
How about you check out the Australian system of voting for a candidate in your area to represent you, then the party that win the most seats (areas we call electorates) have a leader who is then the country's leader. You get to put candidates in order of preference in case your fave doesn't win 🤓
The best way to do that is to get more states as signatories to the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. With all of its scrupulous rules and requirements.

Yes. Game theoretic, self-interest dynamics hinder its adoption. But nothing's impossible.
Most other democracies to that, either by a first-past-the post or proportional representation system. But remember, Trump won the popular vote as well. Can't always account for the sheep voting for the abattoir
Not seen proof racism & misogyny decisive in US voting: aware factor in Trump's win. Wrong of course. Could not bear to vote for a competent experienced black woman , so went for ignorant, mentally questionable nation wrecking criminal despot? Insulting to voters. Cost of living greater impact.
Agreed cost of living was greater impact, and in a two-party system, this also just helped Trump -- despite his own role in causing the inflation by appointing Jerome Powell as Fed chair as well as his own pandemic stimulus.
The electoral college has to go.SCOTUS must have 10 year terms.Subjects need strict rules.Especially settled law.President should be subject to recall by the people by referendum, along with House and Senate seats. There should be a majority. No gerrymandering.Simple born here, vote here.I'm dreaming
If you haven't read the Federalist Papers & the Anti- Federalist Papers. Most of the same subjects have been debated over and over. This was before it all came together. It was very public, and the public was then informed by pamflets, newspapers, and debates. I was shocked how little we've changed.
I didn't support Buttigieg when he ran in 2020 but I'm really really liking him now. He's knowledgeable, thoughtful, and he can talk to anyone.
But there are a number of other Democrats who are also very impressive and appealing.
We have a deep bench.
Absolutely agree. Your system where a handful of Electors can declare the defeated candidate the winner is corrupt & undemocratic. It was conceived so that slave-holding states received extra electoral votes and this is still the premise on which it still works.
I don't. I won't vote for dems if they nominate any more Wall Street shills. Period. I'm 100% behind David Hogg. We need to toss out a lot of incumbents & elect leaders who are beholden to the people, not their donors. If Buttigieg's campaign finance summary gets cleaned up, I'd consider him.
It gets harder and harder to look at the consequences of money in politics every day with this administration. Especially seeing the overt greed and inhumanity. I know dems aren't in charge right now, but they're doing largely the same thing. They're just quieter and more deceiving.
Let's also abolish permanently sitting SCOTUS justices and change how we apportion the U.S. House while we're at it. No more strategic justice retirements. No more gerrymandering.
Anyone who is arguing for abolishing the EC as a short-term action item needs to explain either 1) how you will get the support of a whole bunch of GOP officeholders who think the EC favors them, or 2) how you will get to 2/3rds of Congress and 3/4ths of state legislatures without them.
Abolishing the EC can still be a long-term goal. But you need the right political conditions to make it happen. If Kerry had won Ohio in 2004, we might have gotten a bipartisan consensus that the EC should go, since both parties would have lost the presidency in the EC in close succession. 2/n
We can't say it's much of a democracy when folks like Buttigieg are taking Wall Street & Big Pharma money behind the scenes. We can't say much about the DNC's support for democracy given their former use of super delegates, deals made with presidential candidates, & lack of a REAL primary, either.
Are you implying an individual *cannot* work for a corporation and contribute? You would ban all gainfully employed people from those places from donating?
The only way anyone can get elected is with donations from rich people and corporations. Without that money, opposition candidates would overwhelm those who only rely on small donations from individuals.
I think the real issue is that a lot of incumbents aren't really that popular with their base. Not popular enough to drum up the kind of grassroots support Sanders, AOC, and Warren do, at least. Which is also a problem... they're being supported habitually rather than for their merits.
Truth here. Sanders ran a campaign funded by his supporters and only the primaries as a result of consistent DNC interference.
It is entirely possible to be elected to the seat of President without any funding from billionaires, so long as we don't allow interference from those who are taking it.
I disagree. We have more than a handful of officials we've elected to public office who don't take corp. lobbyist donations. Sanders out-raised Clinton x4 in 2016. AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Greg Casar, Elizabeth Warren, and Jayapal are all examples of politics who don't take dark money.

And having more than two choices would help a lot. There are a TON of US voters who would never vote for a black woman.

ONLY WAY THE REPS CAN WIN!
But there are a number of other Democrats who are also very impressive and appealing.
We have a deep bench.
Mayor Pete is one of three Dems that Republicans dream of as the nominee in '28. See also, Crockett and AOC.
I’m sure that since you publicly published that accusation you have documentation to back it up.
Right?
Put that evidence right here, please 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

“THE ORGANIZATIONS THEMSELVES CANNOT DONATE. THE MONEY CAME FROM INDIVIDUALS OR PACS AFFILIATED WITH THE ORGANIZATIONS.”
Individuals who contribute to candidates must declare their employer. Buttigieg did not take money from PACS.

How do you explain the difference between his list of corporations and Buttigieg’s?
