Apparently it’s not an oversight. According to the Reddit, this is working as intended as the protocol can’t affect a user’s personal information, so it can’t force a user to unfollow someone.
Yeah, i tested it a while back, if you block them they cant see or interact with your posts, but if you unblock them its like they were never blocked at all. I genuinely have no idea why you'd do that instead of unfollowing.
