I'm in favour of public ownership of water companies, but please do not bail them out/ using public money to take over all their debt.

The govt should not pay more than £1 to take over the assets once all investors and creditors have lost their money.

There was absolutely no argument for the privatisation of water in the first place. Now that it’s failed on every metric (bar making money for bosses and shareholders), let’s put it back public hands, where it belongs. Although I bet the Tories vote against that, purely for ideological reasons.

I, for one, couldn’t care less how much renationalising water costs. Privatising it was an ideologically-driven policy of no benefit to ordinary people and it needs to end. Now. At any cost. Ditto energy.

I agree, but not at any cost. Thames water alone has 15.2 billion debt, plus the water system needs urgent upgrade. There are 16 water companies. They need to be made to run them efficiently until the debt is paid down, no bonuses or dividends, profits straight back into the companies.

I suspect that whatever the cost now, it’ll be a bargain compared to the cost in the future! The state has had every opportunity to make the water companies run efficiently, and has failed. Nationalising now will be cheap in comparison with waiting for a “better” time that just won’t happen.

I wish you well and hope you succeed but bear in mind that Scottish Water is publicly owned and was never privatised. Water charges are the lowest in the U.K. and go towards investing in management of our water supply , not to shareholders!
