BC is taking the approach of pulling products out of provincially-operated liquor stores. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario is a HUGE government monopoly and is removing all US booze. The tariff's are imposed at the national level so private liquor stores (if they exist) would take the price hit.

With respect to private liquor stores, I should say "where they exist". Canada has historically had government operated liquor monopolies but that has changed over the years in various provinces. In any case....pulling US products is a complete removal from sale vs a price increase by tariff.

I was barely into my first cup of coffee. In retrospect I wonder if they were saying whiskey tariffs are targeting red states (as far as hitting red states harder as far as the big boys being located in Kentucky).

The tariffs are broadly applied to all alcohol beverages and are imposed by the Canadian government. Separately, the targeted "red state" removals from market are at the discretion of the Provinces' government run liquor stores. So likely removing KY bourbon but CA wine still sold w/ tariff applied
