Can confirm. The week before I was fired from federal service I did my mandatory annual records training. And, surprisingly, a shredder or burn barrel is not an approved permanent repository for federal records.

Destruction of federal records happens based on a specific schedule and needs to be approved. Certainly many of these records were still timely and I’m sure there’s a portion of them that are permanent records as well.
