Opposition parties are dead right. The independents can't have their cake and eat it. They can't step out and in again, step out and in again. They're in government, sit on government benches.

The main parties allowed this to happen and shrugged their shoulders. It is within their remit to insist that the non-minister Regional independents sit as back benchers.
The idea they're entitled to take opposition speaking time while clearly part of the government is beyond ludicrous. The opposition are absolutely correct to stand their ground.
I haven't seen anyone getting into the detail of this, or maybe I've missed it. It would absolutely be nonsense if government independents had opposition speaking time, but is that what is being proposed for the term of the government or just until the government is officially formed?
For emphasis; the opposition need to force this. It is completely unacceptable to have TDs party to the PFG to pretend like they're not part of the PFG. Put up or shut up.
What next? FGers sit in opposition seats saying "oh that government policy, nothing to do with us"? Fuck that. Opposition is oppostion. Government is government. Never the twain shall meet.
Sick and tired of this gombeen nonsense. Lads: yiz signed up for it. Get with the actual and literal programme! Ye were the ones crowing about the "crazy" Greens when they WERE in government and now you want to sit on opposition benches while also being in government. Fuck right off.
Are these lads having a laugh? The people "subverting the constitution" (haha!) are the government TDs refusing to sit on government benches! The government is holding *itself* to ransom. What a shower. (via @jenniferbray.bsky.social)
Love to see that fker Lowry answering difficult questions on the news. He thought he could sneak back into the shadows and use those simpletons as pawns. My local TD Harkin is part of that group and I am totally disgusted. How dare she have anything to do with him.
It’s the worst kind of Gombeen politics. Don’t be at all surprised that Bertie Ahern will be the government’s nominee for next president. All part of the quid quo pro that brought Michael Lowry in from the wilderness.
