I'm not volunteering myself because I'm already over capacity, but it would be nice if someone organized a virtual bookish event for readers and authors w with disabilities and chronic illnesses that cannot do in person cons.

This is definitely doable—the polymer clay community did a fully digital event this past spring with dozens of videos with live chats, and a Facebook group with discussion threads. It was very cute. Honestly surprising this hasn’t been done for books yet given how online we all are
Brilliant idea. Maybe it’s possible to partner up w the American Library Association. I’m no librarian but I bet some part of the ALA might be up for it?
there's writehive, a fully online con. i would love to see more online bookish/nerd stuff. i can do in person cons, but most of the ones in this industry are in the US and i am not crossing that border
People w/o disabilities and chronic illnesses still dominate and take up a ton of space in virtual events. And they take up ALL the space at in person events!
We should and deserve to have a space where we don't have to beg organizers for transcripts of talks and to have more frequent breaks.
I always prioritize disabled folks @weeknightwriters.bsky.social & am disabled myself, but yeah, it's not quite the same as something explicitly FOR disabled/chronic illness folks
I'm sure there's tons of people in the book community who feel left out and I just think it would be nice for all of us to unite around books in a place / space where none of us have to worry about air filtration.
Would be nice. It'll never happen though unless we the disabled community do it ourselves. And like with everything else, that requires time, money, and energy we don't have. *continues to lay on the floor, out of spoons*

I will reach out to them as well and see if this is something my mircro-bookstore could help facilitate. 🙂
I was just checking on my N-95 stock today. 🫠
I’ll DM a few people.
I want it to be specifically for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses. Other people *who get it*. Something *just for us.*
