it'll be a hard sell to build more inflexible generation in scotland when by the 30s we'll have enormous amounts of curtailment already from wind alone

right but the restriction on north-south power transfers is a very real technical one, not one of political will. by 2030 NESO are saying between 15-22TWh (ish) of curtailment from wind alone. the north-south border and the limits on it is a major bottleneck. we need more grid!

(for context, a few years ago the transfer capability was about 4.6GW because of various security constraints. by 2030 it could easily be triple that. at least double)

Poor argument made there I think. It posits producing more energy from renewables than the country consumes as an end point. But we know in Scotland that we already reached this point and yet we are still more reliant on gas generation than anything else on many days.

The conversation in UK around energy is too little about improving the infrastructure for supply into homes; ie if we rolled out district heating schemes widespread, we could reduce gas reliance & save household costs, as well as community-owned renewable energy (like the Samsø model).

I've yet to see a single good economic, security-related or environmental reason for new nuclear anywhere, never mind Scotland - for me, this is just one more major reason not to vote Labour.
