People have been complaining about distribution in the USA since forever too. Honestly, the region has never truly caught on. Some producers have, but there's been no obvious clamoring for the wines. Of course, it's hard to love what is hard to find.

Said it before, but Alsace seems to be one of those places where either it's not on your radar at all or you've been there and fallen completely in love with the food, the wines and the pretty, timbered wine villages.

I'm the latter - three visits and counting.

I think some of the reasons its never caught on is down to image: a flute bottle for still wines, even for red wines = many U.S. consumers associating to German/sweet. Good shops & education can overcome that, but also hampered by many producers changing RS levels year to year with no clear labeling

Well, I'm not interested in defending a thesis about it right now 😉. This is mostly personal observation.

But if I were, I'd take a look at trends in import numbers for still wines vs. Cremant in the U.S., as well as if there has been a rise since '21 (mandatory sweetness designation on labels).

And I think there's some insight to be gained by looking at the rise of Spatburgunder from Germany (specifically Baden) in the U.S. market vs. the much more stagnant sales of P.N. from Alsace.

Maybe it's all down to quality, but I think flute bottles hurt Alsace there.

Can highly recommend, Paul.

Drive from Calais is 6 hours direct; or break it up via Belgium & Luxemburg on the way.

Strasbourg is a good starting point, then cruise the wine villages down to Colmar's Petite Venise.

Eguisheim is also a must-visit IMHO - plus bring back a bootful of bottles.

Excellent - if you are making a real road trip of it, consider:

- Bruges (+ Ghent / Brussels)
- Bouillon
- Luxembourg
- Strasbourg -> Colmar
- Freiburg / Triberg / Heidelberg
- Mosel / Trier

Took Dad on a boys' week-long road trip 15 years ago and had a great time. Stay at Logis de France.
