Such great info! Women, pay attention- your birth certificate may not match your married last name (most are maiden names). Something thing to correct if SAVE becomes law.

This bill would disproportionately impact women, especially low income women who are married. Married women who changed their names would have to show a passport in order to vote or at least that’s my understanding. Seems like it might’ve been worth mentioning.

Yep. I have a birth certificate. It shows my maiden name. I’m twice-married, so I’ve had 2 different married names . So would I need my birth certificate, a copy of my marriage license for husband 1, a copy of the divorce decree from husband 1, copy of the marriage license to husband 2?

I've read the article and don't see anything "disastrous" there. What it says that 21M people don't have the citizenship document "readily available", which is explained in another article as "a document may be at another family member or in deposit box". So what exactly is disastrous?

Passports are expensive as fuck and birth certificates are hard to locate for most people.

The fact that they went out of their way to make sure real-id wouldn’t be a valid way to check is fucking evil. What’s the point of it if you can’t use it.

Right off the bat, you've heard us say that 23 million Americans don't have ready access to the papers they'd need to register.
It's important to note that these aren't just *potential* voters -- we estimate that more than 12 million folks who cast a ballot in 2020 wouldn't be able to re-register

This is a huge deal -- put differently, a full 7% of folks who voted in 2020 would be barred from re-registering if they needed to, since they don't have ready access to these documents.
That's no small risk: 12% of Americans move every year! The SAVE Act would upend all their registrations

To put this in context: according to the EAVS, there were 162 MILLION new or updated registrations between the 2018 and 2022 midterm elections. Out of 220 million registered voters! Vast numbers of Americans register or update their registration every 4-year election cycle

These are just the folks who don't have ready access to these documents. But the effects go much further. That's because the SAVE Act would require folks to show their papers in-person. Guess how many people registered online or via the mail between 2018 and 2022

More than 52 million! 52 million people registered using a method that would be functionally barred by the SAVE Act! A lot of these people would find other ways to register, but we know from the adminsitrative burden literature that many of them wouldn't--even if their papers were handy

The ‘SAVE Act’ is voter suppression. Call your reps, tell them vote NO
