Sorry to be all 'this is exactly what I said in my book', but it is fascinating - and excruciating - watching traditional politicians (and traditional media) trying to cope with Trump and Musk. (1/?)

I really hope more people in the media take this perspective.
As a consumer (and supporter) of the mainstream media, it’s incredibly frustrating to see the inability to evolve their approach while this circus goes on.
Trump's style is simple: he cruises along, chucking grenades out of the window, and he's already moved on by the time they blow up. Same with Musk buying Twitter etc: everything is trolling/joking, right up till it's not.
Meanwhile you have this whole infrastructure of foreign governments and media orgs ponderously covering every single thing as if it's a real announcement. 'LOL might buy Venice', X'd at 2am, becomes: 'Starmer pushed on Trump Italy proposal, what implications for US/UK alliance?
It's like watching velociraptors vs diplodocuses (diplodoci?). Everyone really needs to adapt how they operate, or we're in for a bloody long four years.
(And if your main reaction is 'but velociraptors and diplodocuses lived tens of millions of years apart', congratulations, you win a playdate with my son.)
