I’m sorry you’re wrong. The game of the year is obviously my personal hyper fixation Unicorn Overlord. I didn’t want to be the one to have to tell you.
Qud might be in the window for next year given that it 'came out' only a week ago, probably not enough time for the judges to make an assessment for this year's awards
There's a lot of games and there's a lot of awards. Sometimes both, sometimes neither. Is it rewarding to simply enjoy someone else accomplishing? Why do we get so upset when the opposite happens?
Humans are very empathetic. They will assign big emotions to small events. It gives them a reason.
Was hoping metaphor won GOTY considering how good the art/music/writing was. But instead, Sony fans lost their minds at the ability of being able to jump whenever in a very okay platformer. If a Mario game came out this year, astrobot would have been tossed in the dumpster instead.
A Mario game? Like Mario & Luigi: Brothership? Or maybe the two which were nominated in Best Family Game and still lost to Astro Bot?
Sure it would have.
aside from being a really really good game, balatro stands out among the rest for one simple reason: they gave me a free steam key for balatro after i got obsessed and spent a week straight tweeting about it. none of the other games gave me anything for free. i rest my case
srsly tho my main complaint is that it is a grind because you have really little control over what you get to do so most of the interesting situations are noise in the rng
