No youre not seeing it correctly.. H1-b wage-slave companies like Infosys, Tata and Wipro, HLC get like 85% of the h1b visas that are available. it's rigged to ensure cheap Indian software developers take American jobs.

"take jobs" as if there is a finite amount of jobs that doesn't increase accordingly with the increase in aggregate demand due to spending that those very immigrants inject into the economy, (economists here, immigrants are objectively good for the economy and increase jobs eventually, so tired 🙄)

It lines up well with their beliefs that US schools should only be open to Americans.

Which is frustrating since the best way to bring our value system (and I'm speaking loosely here!) is through this. Educate here, bring that back to your country, it helps raise our profile.

I think that's in part because of the massive overlap between "techbros who want unlimited H1-B visas" and "techbros who believe there's an AI war coming and we have to win it at all costs" insane doomerfuturists. They think AGI is imminent, and they're getting used by tech CEOs to cut costs.

Not to mention that they’re insanely competitive, expensive, very few are given out, most companies can’t even sponsor people for them. If you’re not talking about how more immigrants (particularly international students) should have greater easier access to them, please talk about something else.

It's primarily tech sector jobs impacted by H1-B hires. Tech companies give preference in hiring H1-B workers from consulting firms (e.g. Cognizant, HCLTech), so that they can underpay them and leverage their residency if they retaliate, essentially making them indentured workers.
