As a former academic, I saw the damage of light authoritarianism firsthand as administrators destroyed education in pursuit of profit all while hiding behind the veneer of good intentions.

Honestly it was even more insidious than the Right’s open hatred and statement of their beliefs.

Within higher education you have an entrenched administrative class that is always looking for “economic realities” to justify their actions, and Trump and his administration are giving them cover for a shift in college culture that they desperately want and need.

It’s a cycle that gets worse.

The point is, as it has always been, to create conditions in which the unchallengeable “reality” is the choosing of the wealth and oligarchical classes, creating through the university a new generation of citizens and administrators who are trained to follow this lead and continue the project.
