I still love this lecture. I saw this when you posted it to Patreon years ago and watching it made me feel so vindicated on what I like and my own thoughts on erotica.
Do you happen to have a transcript? There are a couple quotes I want to share with friends. Copy & pasting would be nice, but I can just not be a bum and type it out if need be lol
Thank you for sharing this. We've been talking nigh constantly about transgressive erotic art and kink have been integral to our emotional recovery and to this day we still find ourselves second guessing everything. It's so much so that the subject is something we fear saying less we face backlash.
Thank you! I dislike itch for a lot of reasons but am glad ppl can make it work! I've moved pretty much all my shit to print and discord at this point.
Yeah things are gonna get weirder before they get better; I'm waiting for Mastercard to make a stink towards itch and force everyone off again because that seems to be the pattern. Discord is nice but if you don't know someone to let you in you're SOL
Wow, thank you everyone for downloading my lecture and sharing it! I wanted to mention that I have a physical goods store at https://celineloup.com where I have books, prints, posters, stickers and pins for sale <3
omg, core memory unlocked 🔓 Thank you for such a great & very encouraging talk, kudos! but tbh I was expecting to be introduced a bit more to the basic art of capitalizing on the female&male gaze (like what makes the important details). Do you happen to have any resources that you could point me to?
I think if i set out to do anything with this lecture, it is to underline how futile it is to make one-size-fits-all statements about how to draw erotica: your thirst, and how you express it, is for you first and for an audience last. If it isn't working for you it won't work for anyone else.
I've always said that artists who don't take personal risks accomplish little, and that's especially true for drawing porn---if it doesn't feel deeply sincere and confessional you're wasting everyone's time.
If you start out thinking you're going to capitalize on someone else's thirst before taking a serious, hard look at what turns YOU on and how YOU feel about drawing that, im sorry but the oracle is gonna zap ya good
Ah, I should have expected that answer, since my choice of words were poor by using 'capitalize' 😅 Obviously you are speaking the truth, but I'm more interested from an academic point of view what for example the field studies says how certain fandoms resonate with specific aspects of the art etc
Or also how the culture can get dissected in our current times similar to how you reviewed the movements through the historic eras. Nevertheless I also think there's merit for an artist to look outward & experiment, similar to exploring like ones own sexuality, this could function as an approach~ 🙏
I was literally just listening to fhe "Batty Rap" and honestly it's actually pretty good. The soundtrack version has a bridge where Robin is doing all the voices and it's both disturbing and hilarious
nah, that was a good answer! I'm relieved you didn't mean that you went to work for the gas and oil industry lmao and that instead you just embody big Top energy.
Idk, I’ve always loved giant menaces and antiheroes. I thought Godzilla was cool as fuck for breathing fire and stomping on cities. I remember very little of hexxus other than he looked cool. But I’ve always been a rabble rouser and menace. Now I’m that but for good
