Building nuclear reactors in Australia is like building a couple of hundred billion dollars worth of gigantic wave pools around the coast. Why? Just go to the beach you drongo. Can't even believe this is a conversation - what a stupid country.

The greatest shortcoming of mass franchise democracy is that the vote of those who do not read is equal to the vote of those who do, and the corrupt and rich can use their resources to whip up the illiterate into whatever nonsensical state they regard as beneficial.
Reading’s not a panacea. People who voted yes in the referendum were:
Educated - critical thinking skills.
Unions - engaged in the community.
Aboriginal Australians - lived experience
Young people - open to new ideas

I am not worried about whether people who choose not to read being told the following get offended because it is true: a huge problem here is that you are too lazy to read and therefore are unfit for active citizenship in your present state.
Further, the people saying oh they’re too stressed, too tired, too this, too that are part of the problem and only making excuses for them. Virtually everyone, almost no genuine exceptions, can find at least 15 minutes in a day for some serious reading.
The MSM propaganda machine has fed anti renewables lies for years. Nuclear is the ‘easy fix solution’ 😵💫 It will never happen…ff will continued killing the planet, while a few ppl will get richer.
Well … a lot of dumb pollies, sure. But your average doik has resisted nuke power across 3 generations. There’s some comfort in our not-so-dumb people power.
And still no one talking about the slight problem that laws preventing nuclear power in Australia will have to be changed at federal and (multiple) state levels before anything happens ... so it's not going to happen
Yes, have been schooled on that via constitutional scholar Anne Twomey (in thread). But such a dictatorial move would likely be political suicide for any new government. It would cause enormous unrest. So it doesn’t stay my view that this is a fraudulent can-kicking exercise
No government has controlled both houses of parliament since Howard's after he trounced Latham (deservedly) in 2004. We're now in an era where major parties are struggling to get 30% of the primary vote. So getting this kind of change through a senate controlled by Greens and Teals is fantasyland
Unfortunately, Anne Twomey seems to think that the Federal Government would have sufficient powers to legislate to allow it and override any State bans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43EZHrjjBmk
Thanks for sharing this, that's very educational (as I'd expect from Anne Twomey). So, it's theoretically possible! However, such a move would be controversial to say the least - the fact that Dutton is releasing these costings on Friday two weeks before Xmas doesn't inspire political confidence
Absolutely correct, give away our strategic renewable energy advantage to every country that has to install nuclear because they have no other viable options.

And did you factor in the harm from going around saying people with literacy issues suck? As a leftist?
I used to speculate on the motivations of others, the nuances and biases and influences.
Now I just shrug and think, fucking morons. Just absolutely brain-dead, dipshits.
The Senate is likely to be a bigger hurdle.
It can neve happen, there is no way the Greens or the ALP will vote to rescind the nuke ban at a Federal level.
It's impossible that the LNP can gain a majority in both houses so it can never happen.
The LNP know this, it was never planned to happen
I mean, there are whoppers and then there's THIS.
And I think Labor at least realises that there is some sort of sunset for fossil fuels, as much as they want to extend it.
Madness
Because the wave pools will have to be built on land owned by someone?
Because while everyone's talking about the wave pools being built no-one's asking about the turds on the beach?
But that wouldn't appease the fossil fuel companies or Gina's uranium ambitions - what was I thinking! /s
