I'm honestly curious: Is there a bible verse that's being construed as a loophole regarding the act of adultery? I'm honestly half-tempted to get a copy of it just to figure out why such crimes are seemingly commonplace within the church.

The thing is, they believe that the only thing that matters is that they believe Jesus is the son of God and died for their sins, which they were born with. I've been told that the great thing about being a Christian is that you don't have to try to be a better person
because you'll always be a sinner and God forgives you for it, as long as you accept Jesus as your savior. So adultery (or any other sin) is basically to be expected, but you're cool because of his sacrifice. It's fucked up.
The idea of Jesus dying for your sins being a license to go against the Ten Commandments seems contradictory to well... the ten commandments. If Jesus getting got was sufficient, why not just go see an escort instead? Far fewer legal consequences, and still lines up with the Jesus logic.
They do that too. I'm not saying it makes sense, I'm just saying that's what I've been told by some Christians when this topic comes up. They are very good at ignoring what they don't want to see in their book, and interpreting the rest as conveniently as possible.
No, I'm pretty sure the reason why there's so much child abuse within the church is because there's some verse in the bible that's being construed as a loophole to dance around "Thou shalt not commit adultery" and/or "thou shalt not covet"
No loophole needed. Pedocriminals just choose careers that give them access to children.
In fact, I believe I heard a scholar say that the Bible verse homophobes use to condemn homosexuality was initially not about men lying with men but with boys...
