I hear students use it all the time and cringe, but there's not really much we can do. Whether or not adults normalize a word has little bearing on our exposure to it - if we don't use it, kids still will; if we do use it, kids will move on to something else (but we'll have defeated the purpose)

I swear to goodness if I heard my child (a teenager) use the term, I would make him define it and provide the origins of it.

Hopefully his level of discomfort would provide reason enough to never say it again.

Well, 'The English' didn't choose the word [it doesn't work like that in MANY ways] but most of us lovers of the language can recognize the how wonderful, and quite useful [the important bit], this neologism is.
