“In June, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass signed an adopted $12.8 billion budget that cut the fire department’s funding by more than $17.5 million, or around 2 percent of the previous year’s budget of $837 million.”

This is more a Democrat talking point. Republicans seem to think it's burning because they hired people other than straight white males in the fire department.
I don’t think a trillion $$$ can stop the 100 mph winds that prevent the water planes from flying constantly. They can only fly when it’s safe. It’s called a natural disaster. Humans can only do so much.
Aaaaaand if she cut funding to the police the GOPiggies would be blaming her for crime. What else is new. They just talk trash because California refuses to join their evil right wing plutocratic capitalist social darwinist empire. Fie on them all.
Anyone who's been thru a fire driven by Santa Anas of that intensity knows a 2% budget cut would have changed NOTHING, even if it had been real, which it was not. What's the point of spreading disinfo after a tragedy? Who are you trying to hurt? Who are you trying to protect?
LA county and the state has many fire departments, all deployed to the fight. No fire department in the world can stop multiple firestorms in 90 MPH winds. It’s hardly a personnel or budget issue.
I just hear that they have ran out of water in LA County. Is this information accurate? As a wife of a firefighter, I can confirm, water is needed to stop fires. (Among other options, but a strong priority.)
No, the area has adequate water: problem is that many dozens of hydrants powering high pressure hoses simultaneously depletes water pressure throughout.
Exactly this. I’m sure that extra few millions of dollars would have stopped the wind and extinguished these gargantuan fires. Very likely the ire will be ‘you let my multi million dollar house burn down and did nothing about it’ In fact, I already heard that on the radio. Here. In Scotland.
That is what you all asked and voted for. Paid firefighting is al lame socialist scrutiny. People who want it should pay for it themselves. You cannot have massive tax cuts and have a fire department at the same time.
So, you thought it was a good idea to create some discord during an ongoing tragedy? The City responded and that 2% cut would not make a difference. There’s just too many fires all at once. The water system is working as expected. We’ve had a dryer season & the warm Santa Ana winds are not helping
Ahh, the typical failure to consider the difference between causality and correlation, convenient for those looking to misrepresent the actual facts of the matter.
She didn’t even make it smaller though, the annual budget increased by about $50 million. It just got misreported, apparently due to how the budget was broken up.
And those cops are standing around pretending to "prevent looting" instead of doing something useful, like directing traffic or helping victims get to safety.
Mayor Bass did cut the fire budget for LA by $17m (not $23m as claimed on social media) out of $820m. That still budgeted HIRING firefighters and emergency paramedics. This cut likely has little impact on the ability to fight current fires nor would it have prevented the current hurricane fires.
LA has over 750 firefighters. And of course immediately nearby communities and towns and States even have kicked in and gotten their personnel in. These are ridiculous hurricane wind fires that nobody could stop. Quit spreading your bullshit about budget cuts and hiring freezes. You people 😤
But the cuts out laid in the budget did not reduce hiring in fact there were NEW hirings in the fire departments. These are just critical nitpick fly by criticisms people are trying to put out there
Isn’t the bigger story that there weren’t electrical back ups to water pumps so when PG&E had to turn off transmission lines the water pressure went away? That seems like a huge goddamn problem. Its the same reason Richmond Virginia doesn’t have water now for multiple days.
Not sure what the point of this post is. Even if it’s true, I don’t think a 2% cut would have made a difference in this fire. Though I’m sure Maga lovers will take this and run with it.
False—there was a contract under negotiation, so a portion (that increased the total budget) was put into a separate fund that was later included in their budget.
This poster in these photos is quite informed and breaks it down, removing confusion and ambiguity. People are looking for a controversy.

geez dude.
important victim coroner datas...
symptoms of the smoke poisoning ? 🤏
The police can put the fire in a chokehold. Maybe that would stop it.

I appreciate budget cuts can reduce efficiencies and such but this not the inability to get to another fire because they had two less fire trucks.
People are misplacing their anger, I think what people here are mad at is LAPD and their budget and not LAFD, lol.

How about instead, asking what a bigger budget might do if we had it for this fire.
I'm not convinced LA burning is an issue of money spent, at all as no one has formulated what the money would even do if they had it.
The right really has been stripped of their critical thinking skills. They can't imagine how a drought might lead to materials being more flammable.
People are fucking stupid. 🤦🏻♀️
