Like the stock market, they were probably invested in the slave trade. Many with means were. So the numbers of enslaved people could be much higher.

Also recent job postings (see here: https://slis-jobline.simmons.edu/2025/01/08/archives-400-project-processing-archivist-harvard-university-cambridge-ma/ ) have made it clear Harvard has moved on to allocating their archival resources
to celebrate their 400th and how awesooooome they are.

A vital point from Cellini: “In many cases, Harvard slaveholding ran directly through the President’s Office or Harvard’s governing boards. HSRP shouldn’t report directly to anyone in central administration — it should be in an academic unit with academic protection.”

I'm beginning to become overwhelmed by it all. I mean, I've been talking about exactly all of this since the nineties but the rate of decay is unfathomable. The difference it makes to have one person with no notion of law or decency -- such as those ever were in the US.
