Black poppy is a symbol that commemorates all those who have died, & are still dying, due to war and its legacy.
Purple poppy remembers animal victims of war & human violence.

I showed Emma's excellent cartoon to a group of friends over morning coffee. Not one knew the meaning of the not red poppies.
My grandmother's late friend, who lost her first husband & brother in WWI was a members of the Co-operative Women's Guild in the UK, explained it to me as a kid.
