If we are opening the doors to any band, and don't care about popularity as a metric, I feel like GBV has admirably (or doggedly) navigated the 90s - oughts in ways that surpass these other bands. Then again they basically just do "more" of what they've always done.

Blood Sex Sugar is 1991. Californication is 1999. You, your mom, grandma, bus driver, mailman, local sports stadium, every FM channel played it. For better and worse, they are the best that a really really big band did in the 1990s. This is my worry and my truth.

I deeply resent this record and can also sing it cover to cover. If we ignore non-SP Morgan work then SP had the good sense to stop sooner than RHCP but maybe this (stopping) isn't the right way to put it given what we know about Morgan.
