I genuinely think it's a bit for a video on call outs/competitions like this. They work closely with a few artists so I'd imagine they know better than this on all counts; nature of the comp, time scale, and the "prize".

I really hope that's the case anyway.

That's fair enough, I get that -- done a lot of spec writing for less than this so I know the time, effort and energy that goes into any art.

I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. At best it's the video bit, at worst I think it's not been thought through/misguided.

like i feel like accept portfolios with maybe written briefs of ideas that artists have for what they would pitch for this would be a better way to gauge who to commission for it or something

Yeah I totally agree! It's a very fun idea, but I can just....do this on my own for a project for myself for a project that I own and I can still also probably not get paid for it LOL

portfolio submissions or two sentence pitches is a way better idea than soliciting unpaid work
