I was lucky enough to be introduced, ACTUALLY introduced to Vonnegut during a college course a couple years ago where I had to read Slaughterhouse Five. I knew who he was, but always ignored him as one of those "classic" authors. I'm glad I was wrong.
The “History of Rock in 500 Songs” pod episode on “Dark Star” (five hours long) uses KV’s S5 as a thread throughout. It’s a fantastic work, the whole series, that is. Amazing how thorough and insightful Andrew Hickey is even when he’s not necessarily a fan (and he’s not a Head).
Andrew is really great. This was my first ep, and I went back to listen to all 164 before it, and became a basic level Patreon supporter. I really appreciate what he’s doing and how he does it
I've got to return to Vonnegut. Bought Slaughterhouse 5 in college and I think I've now read most if not all of his books. But it's been a long time so maybe in the new year I'll pick couple of them up again
I think if I really had to pick one it would be Cat’s Cradle. I also really love SH5, Player Piano, God Bless You Mr Rosewater, and Breakfast of Champions. I’m due for a reread on a few of his. There’s a something in everything.
Did you see the documentary on Hulu called Unstuck In Time?
literally pulled out my stack last week to loan my niece and I started Player Piano for the first time in ~30 years. So good. And so many parallels to our world now!
I've been a fan of his for a long time. Saw him speak in the early 90s at Harper College in Illinois. He was funny and insightful, and freely spoke his mind regardless of popular opinion. Loved it.

sort of meta and has characters from the other books so idk if it'd be the best starting place 😇
Anyways, I always felt that Vonnegut and Palahniuk had similar writing styles, but could be I just love both authors.
