“You’re so talented” is such a pet peeve of mine. I never say anything back because know it’s meant as a compliment but it always comes off dismissive of the sheer amount of time you’ve dedicated to a skill

I think this important fact is a key factor in why some have turned to gen-AI services. Developing skill is hard work, and often full of self doubt. Gen-AI removes that—with immediate gratification of "making" images quickly—but the trade off of what it steals from you and others isn't worth it.

One of my teachers explained this as the difference between a talent and a skill. Art is not a talent. Nobody is good at the start. We were all scribbling with crayons and fingerpainting at first. Some of us just continue to train the skill!
