Applying the rule of law to land use instead of giving rich NIMBYs a heckler’s veto over zoning-compliant new housing is just like illegally firing tens of thousands of civil servants.

Yeah i mean it definitely is just the DOGE guys that want to give a whole bunch of resources and legislative leeway to a shadowy group of rich people that have questionable morals and a sole profit motive, with the hopes that there will be community benefits down the road, right?
Pretty much. NIMBYs are indeed rich people who want to hoard scarce resources, but it's not only about profit, it's also just fear, and alas, community benefits are not even a consideration - it's purely selfish.
I’d be a lot less worried about the DOGE boys if they were indiscriminately firing city planning department staff instead of the people who run the global economy and man the nuclear silos
The suburban experiment was literally a right wing project . Levitt of Levittown infamously declared that no man living in the suburbs could be a Communist bc all his time would be spent driving to and from work during the week and mowing the lawn on the weekend. Hannah Arendt clocked it immediately
Serenely repeating to myself “these people are mad because they are losing control over the Democratic Party position on housing, and they are furious at me because I am an effective messenger for YIMBYism.”
