I don’t know what your tree is but those leaves in your first photo do look like ivy. Here’s my front hedge which is now mostly ivy (good for wildlife!)

It's definitely ivy. But if you're not familiar with the way that ivy climbs, then changes appearance completely when it reaches the top, it's confusing.
I was well into adulthood before I realised they weren't two entirely separate plants.
