Oh, maybe it's a southern thing: you get clean snow (the elders always said wait for the second snow of the season so I always do), milk (I use Carnation Evaporated), white sugar & McCormick pure vanilla extract. Fill the bowl w/ snow, stirring in sugar & milk for whatever your desired texture is.

But yeah, depending on the prep methods the consistency can be anywhere from that of ice cream to Italian ice/sorbet/sherbert. Mine leans more towards the latter 3.
