I am not arguing against this, but I am familiar with the law that created this. It was created to offer work opportunities for the most severely disabled. They are paid according to work effort that they are able to put in. Without it, the most severely disabled won't have an opportunity to work.

Goodwill, Sheltered Workshops, Puzzles Bakery and Cafe are some examples that I found. I'm sure there are plenty more.

Goodwill is getting rid of their sheltered workshops and no longer use the 14c certification that companies have to get from DOL to pay sub-minimum wage.

While I definitely support this initiative we need to make sure this protects class doesn't lose their health/housing benefits. They will begin to lose benefits if their income goes over the federal poverty level of $15,060. Which is below the federal minimum wage at 2080 hours a year.

It sounds really awful, but idk what else you do. Some of these individuals are severely disabled and will have an output from an entire day equal to a few minutes of a non disabled worker. The program really is to give them something to do and have goals.

How much was this law designed to instill a sense of self worth and value for those with severe disabilities isolating them from society? And how many are employers whose goal is to provide that safe, encouraging environment for the severely disabled?
