that's the gist of it as far as I understand. My least-cynical definition would be AI tools tailored to a specific task or type of task and are sometimes (supposedly) able to go off and do that task largely unsupervised.

This makes sense:

While ChatGPT and Midjourney are great AI assistants, a true AI agent would operate in the background, taking action on your behalf with minimal intervention.
