On my first ever computer in the late 90s, during the first month, every other day or so, randomly, Win 9x BSOD’d. Booting it back up was a nightmare: ScanDisk, corrupt registry, data loss, followed by the inevitable format-install routine.
Vendor had no clue. Kept blaming us despite it happening right in front of him.
It was my brother that figured it out: he opened up the tower and noticed the issue when refitting everything. Was a good intro to building our own PCs later on.
First time I ever saw this screen was win95; I was a child, and it terrified me. I accidentally turned the computer off because the receptacle it was plugged into was controlled by a wall switch.

The culprit: loosely plugged in 16MB RAM module.

the real nightmare is when you hear the clank sound of a dead disk.
