The last line makes me skeptical of who wrote it. Way too defensive for a non-op-ed: "so offering superficial comparisons between elements from now and back then is not likely to contribute much substance to today's political discourse."

Also ignores what Project 2025 is trying to bring back.

The Snopes article makes clear that a key driver of the Depression was total lack of oversight or regulation in most critical areas of the US economy. These disastrous conditions are being put in place by DOGE & Co. even now.
However the situation in Europe is vastly different

1920's European economies were struggling to recover from the war. Britain was devastated by the loss of a generation. Germany was in shambles. These conditions don't exist today. Europe is united around sane economic principles; Germany is a powerhouse. We'll have to see how this plays out. 2/2a

An interesting element of this to me is what will happen to Russia if a major world-wide economic crash does hit. Russia today is hollowed out. Almost 1,000,000 young men have been killed or injured. Sanctions are impacting their economy. Who will want to help them after Ukraine?
