The original Planescape boxed set included stats for a *starter* tiefling, but The Planewalkers Handbook had a section dedicated to rolling up random traits, abilities etc.
To me, tieflings embodied how wild, crazy, and *varied* the planes are. Vast, full of surprises...

Originally, they weren't a single race that all looked alike. "Tiefling" was kind of a catch-all term for "the plane-touched", generally half-human and half-something *else*. 🧵

They should've named the new ones something else. But they didn't.

I mean the fact that it happened isn't optimal, and there's still no explicit rules for "real" plane-touched, but they do still exist out there.
