Not that there'd be any harm from increasing quotas to billions. If someone wants to move here so badly they are ready to give up what privileges they have, give them as warm welcome as can be had.

Demographics who can't vote will always be political footballs.

I say this is a naturalized immigrant myself who spent nearly 20 years in that horrible system

It almost doesn't matter how far to the right the Dems move bc the policy victims can't retaliate at the polls

I'm not sure if you've made the transition as an adult from being an ineligible immigrant to being an eligible citizen, but I have and I can personally attest that it's a HUGE difference. I helped get the #PWFA passed & my Senator issued a statement based on a call I made to his office

I'm glad that was the case for you, but that's far from typical, let alone universal.

The two most powerful Democrats in Congress are both from my city, and it's patently clear that our elected officials could not care less about what I (or their other constituents, tbqh) think.

That said I do acknowledge that I don't live in a major metro and Iowa (where I am) is a relative backwater

The rate at which Democrats have tried to narrow the gap between their platform and the GOP's has been increasing, so I would not be surprised to see "mass deportation" become an official Dem platform position in less than the usual 10-20 years from now.

Yes, and - why? There has been a constituency for a more progressive vision for ages. Why are we focused on the edges, and not the core, of the coalition, especially when 'bipartisan' has been a bad word in the other party?
