I played Monster Hunter Stories to be friends with (some of) the monsters instead... ironically I wound up coming down on the side of monster hunting. There should not be THAT many apex predators crammed together in every square mile.

I think since World (and in Rise), you can photograph monsters for your "Monster-pedia" in-game, and I find that as fun as hunting the monsters themselves. You also do this in BotW and ToTK (zelda).
Really wish we'd get some sort of MH game where you're a researcher, snapping photos of monsters.
