If you watch any of the fly on the wall docs about Border Control you’ll realise ALL the countries I listed have this rule. Ireland and Australia are particularly strict about it

BTW I am more than familiar with Australian rules and I know they have a visa waiver for commonwealth countries which allows working for ‘money’ not just helping around the house.

I’ve got friends in LA, by your logic if I went and stayed free of charge I’d need a work visa to help with the dishes.
