Im so concerned about all these flights especially since I decided to travel a lot this year to conventions. Statistically plane crashes are very low but that was back then, 2025 is very different and its only February π¬

i do think something thats worth noting is the initial high profile crash stories increased appetite for that kind of news, which is making outlets report on plane crashes more.
Understandable! I wanna visit my folks if I can this year but they live across the country. After hearing about multiple plane crashes, I'm a little weary
Also statistically, odds of having a car crash are thousands more likely than having a plane crash. But car crashes don't make the news anymore. I'm more concerned about the U.S. air traffic controller crisis though.
Remember the news likes your engagement! I remember last year they were like βHave there really been more food recalls lately? No, just more news coverage of them, because people are interested & reading about it!β
Yeah, it's really concerning because on the one hand, it's very possible the news is over-reporting, but the fact a lot of air traffic controllers are getting nuked from the positions doesn't bode well.
I've been worried as well for family who do fly more regularly. I have relatives who are supposed to fly in to CA later in the year, but I'm worried some random malfunction or worse is gonna lead to something horrible.
Hoping still that your flight to Sakuracon does go well!
Tbh, thereβs higher chance of you getting killed on an airport than something happening to you on the plane. Itβs like a fear of sharks - media blow it up, when in reality it doesnβt happen relatively often
I still have yet to book flights for my Japan trip later this year, and it really sucks seeing all of this happening rn (even if I haven't heard any news coming from airlines connecting to there yet thankfully)
Thatβs because they have been firing people whose job it was to make sure these things donβt happen. Weβve had more plane accidents in the last month than weβve had in a long time π’
They're still statistically very low, thousands and thousands of planes fly safely every day. Travelling in a car is far more dangerous, but because we're so used to car crashes, you never think about the hundreds of people dying in car crashes every single day.
Yeah I feel ya, it is scary for sure. Another statistic that is good to know is, planes are so, so much safer than they were in the 60s and 70s, and people certainly flew lots then, but modern planes are leaps and bounds more resilient and controlled even if they look similar.
Many planes designed in the 60s and 70s had hundreds of "hull loss accidents" over the course of their lifetime, whereas nowadays those are low single digits even for models of plane that have been flying since the 90s.
Please be careful and if you can find alternative means of travel, I highly recommend. I live in a state where a plane crashed and I will not be flying at all this year
just to maybe assuage some fears a little, small plane crashes were actually very common before turnp, esp at smaller airports and airspaces where these personal aircraft fly through. even though safety HAS gotten worse, commercial flights are still much. much safer (significantly more regulated!!)
Really wished those that are purposefully being ignorant of what's going on so far this year. Would stop making comments about plane crashes being low. Those numbers are going up. Those crashes could have been avoided easily actually.. Philadelphia plane crash being first example seen β οΈ
Iβm not sure if a visual would be reassuring to you, but you can look up basically a live graphic of all of the hundreds of flights that are currently in the sky and landing and taking off safely. Fear and anxiety can be hard to fight - maybe this would help?

Hopefully someone deals with the monkeys in the whitehouse soonish.
Hoping still that your flight to Sakuracon does go well!
i think its cuz trump fired a lot of air line staff working on security....
If it was gen aviation.. that unfortunately does happen a reasonable amount, we just don't typically hear about it.
News seems to be grabbing & running with ANY plane crash story they can right now unfortunatelyπ
