Well it wasn't their first attempt. Its main goal of not creating parties failed immediately and it led to a civil war that killed a million Americans in less than a lifetime.
So yea it was shit.
The best thing it did was inspire other countries to create better versions.
The constitution was a polite little lie to make it seem like a group of merchant legislators would make other merchants behave instead of overtaking the process. The balance of powers was always a kaleidoscope meant to cloak corruption with an air of legalistic pragmatism and illusionary populism
But it's also a system of government designed by guys who wanted desperately for everyone to think they were geniuses and who legitimately thought a wealthy class was put on Earth to have dominion over everyone else. AND it's reliant on no political factions for it to even work lol
The US Constitution is the best that wealthy White guys could have created 200 years ago. But that was also a world where pit latrines were cutting-edge sanitation, sewage has needed some improvement since then.
