Actually giving the party a reason to keep close track of all their money and maybe even an excuse to learn some transmutation spells or get a job other than adventuring that’s very lucrative and profitable

Just give each spell a 10% chance of total failure. All the gold is wasted with no result. Cannot be rerolled with inspiration.

At the low cost of 100gp of gold dust, you can get an entry level support that will allow me to change invocations selected, so I can get rid of a poor crowd-sourced decision.
