Start of the campaign and I had my players fight on a moving carriage against direwolves that were chasing them. It was really cool how they solved the problems of not being able to move on their own and also catching 2 friends who fell from said carriage.

Tower with a Macguffin at the top. Incoming swarm of enemies. Time to prep and a tower full of consumables and a ballista. We fortified and held. Barely. 2/5 of the party down. ALL resources and consumables used! Literally sniped the last fleeing goblin with my bard's backup dagger. So cinematic!

For me, it was the Mass Effect Space Pirates campaign. A small fleet of pirate ships protecting a refugee generation ship from an intergalactic strike fleet. Just when it looked like they'd be outmatched, I said "Your comms come alive. 'This is Commander Shepard. Do you need assistance?"

The players at the table cheered when I said that, and as soon as I put the minis of the Normandy and ten other ships on the battlemap, the players started rolling better than they had during the whole combat.

Standard colluseum fight with T-Rex. Low stakes, just some fun encounter between story beats until, that is, the creature's ribcage split open and the Big Bad's army came marching through a literal dinosaur flesh-portal. Utter chaos.

We had to full-on video game end boss a monstrous Titan once. Basically the DM slotted different HP levels to different pieces of its armor/hide, revealing parts of it that connected to Legendary Actions, etc. It was a long battle, but super exciting.

We were running from the BBEG's goon squad and ended up scrambling up a mountain trail in the woods. Sharing a braincell, the Fighter and Barbarian started chopping trees and throwing the logs at the goons, Donkey Kong style. I love it when a DM lets the players get creative with the environment.

I spent a day building a haunted house for my party.

The barbarian got polymorphed into a T-Rex as soon as the boss encounter started, broke through the upper floor into the the lower one, and proceeded to forget what he was supposed to do, deciding to wreck as much of the house as possible.

My PC's bf, a goth drow bard, split in half and the Fiend possessing him emerged with the giant grotesque faces of the three NPCs whose souls it had stolen, Resident Evil style. My cleric PC had to make the call for the whole party to shoot bf dead to kill the Fiend, but we managed to revivify him.

Spent a day making a BBEG wizard with a spellbook and everything. Player warlock immediately paralyzed him, rogue stole his spellcasting focus, and barbarian picked him up and yeeted him off the floating platform. We still laugh about it years later.

A fight against a custom monster I designed. It was extremely close and the players experienced everything from paranoia to panic to near defeat and a clutch escape at the end. I was so pleased how it turned out :)

Party was arguing as they walked down the corridor. Suddenly a very large hand shoots out of the dark doorway they were looking to enter, grabs the War by his armor, and throws them across the room.pretty sure the party barely won, and learned not to yell as they explored...
