In totally unrelated news, Spotify stopped paying nearly 90% of artists on the service ANYTHING (no royalties for songs w <1k streams/year)

Yeah, it is mindblowing how little they pay their artists. Luckily I buy CDs since my early childhood, so the artists get their money from it. (And I run out of space for my CDs.)

Doesn't that mean using spotify *is* piracy? I don't mean to shift the blame to the consumer or anything, but to put art on a platform for anyone to listen to, and pay the artists nothing... that's what piracy sites do.

If you don't care about podcasts, most of the competition is about the same... Tidal, Deezer, whatever... But any service that would actually pay artists just can't be competitive with the vampires.
