💥 BREAKING: Goldman Sachs shareholders voted today to reject two anti-DEI proposals, both by 98-2 percent. GS Board urged shareholders to vote to reject proposals. "We believe that diversity, including diversity of thought, experience and perspectives, is important to our commercial success."

I think it's well established that companies with diversity in leadership are more profitable, on average, so I'd guess the economic calculation boils down to whether that's worth the risk of damage from being explicitly targeted by this administration (due to DEI)

Most of these proposals are being brought by the same single hateful group, and include many more strings for the company than the anti-DEI piece. Just food for thought as folks cheer on these being voted down - corps have a vested interest in them not succeeding, besides unpopularity.

I think it's the juxtaposition of Target AND Costco, too. Target went down but also Costco went up. that makes it harder to handwave away as a blip. it's a pattern they're taking seriously now because they're not just avoiding losing money, they're chasing where they think they can find more

i’m a little fried, but i kinda assume if you’re an institution refusing to comply (good), you’re doing it out of capital-based self interest (less good, part of what got us here), but you may actually stand by it because resisting is hard & the incentive to resist would have to be outrageous.
