Instead of staying and fighting for academic freedom they are running, using history as an excuse. They should be using history as a guide to how to resist and lead. I hope they enjoy the bubble while the rest of us stay.

They are being targeted and need a safe place to continue their very high visibility resistance. The rest of those who are not in such peril need to get into the streets to support and grow the movement. This is not the time to be attacking those putting their necks on the line.

Yes, I am pointing the finger because while it’s bad, it can get a lot worse and nothing is a forgone conclusion. Stay and fight for their f students who are in much more danger of being arrested for exercising their 1st amendment rights.

They might be that much more effective fighting in a country that doesn't impose the same limits on academic freedom and working at a university that isn't under constant threat. They can still guide us from Toronto. We will need strong intellectual allies in other countries.

There was no civil war in Germany; the population acquiesced either happily or grudgingly, but they went along. Most likely if no vigorous opposition leader or leaders emerge in the US, the people will just go along.
