used to do this a lot as a kid, when i was always reading just one book at a time and never taking long breaks between sessions
you just look at the page number and commit it to memory, like the last thing that happened in the book was (268). works fine as long as you come back to it soon enough
This is the kind of thing that I could do (among others) that I was 30 and not at 40.
It's not a bad idea to get in the practice of using bookmarks so that when he can't do it anymore he doesn't feel the crushing weight of aging in the same way.
these days I use an ereader, but back when I read books made from paper, I dog-eared those pages! Bookmarks are much too hard to keep track of, and page numbers? Forget it. I really struggle to remember numbers.
Yeah i do that, I can never keep hold of a bookmark for long enough, and the thought of folding over the corner of the page fills me with as much horror as cracking the spine of the book.
Where do I find that feature? Under tools or settings? All my life I've just remembered where I was. Now I can't remember what I had for lunch. Or where.
I never used bookmarks, even back when I was mostly reading physical books. I'd either remember the page number like your husband, or just put the book down open, face down.
